Soapstone is a natural rock found in several places around the world. It was formed from igneous rock in ancient ocean rift zones when those areas experienced significant heat and pressure from mountain formation and tectonic movement. The minerals in soapstone provides a soft, smooth feeling. The finished surface of soapstone feels like a dry bar of soap which is how it received its name!
Soapstone has a rustic and natural charm when compared with the urbane and elegant look of granite or marble. Soapstone is not as hard as granite and its colors range blue-ish gray, green, and black tons with almost pure white veining.
